The crystalline hydrated form of lactose used as the most common direct-compression filler in tablets and dry-powder inhalers.

Derived from cow's milk. Permissible in most fiqh views (dairy is permitted), but those avoiding all bovine-derived ingredients may prefer alternatives. Lactose-intolerant patients should also be aware.
